POWER THROUGH

Climb over tough obstacles and go an electrifying 0-60 mph in 6 seconds. A plug-in hybrid turbocharged engine gives the Wrangler 4xe an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of instant torque for heart-pounding performance off-road and on-road.

A 4X4 FIRST AND FOREMOST

The Wrangler 4xe system is paired with a 2.0L I4 DOHC direct-injection Turbo PHEV engine to bring out the best in already proven Jeep® Brand 4x4 capability. A 16-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, regenerative brake booster and eight-speed automatic transmission work together to send impressive amounts of power and torque to each wheel, maximizing the capability of every component. The sealed and waterproof battery pack and electronics even perform in tough conditions like fording creeks and streams up to 30 inches in depth. Preproduction model shown.

SEIZE THE DRIVE

E-Selec driving modes put you in control. Electric Mode uses only battery power for low-emissions zones in cities or quiet off-roading with maximum torque and horsepower, while eSave Mode reserves battery power for later. Hybrid Mode gives you the best of both worlds. Preproduction model shown.

SAY GOODBYE TO RANGE ANXIETY

Whether you want to take off-road adventure to new places or simply get around town on all-electric power, the Wrangler 4xe is ready with an EPA estimated 49 MPGe rating. E-Selec driving modes that utilize Power Routing enable you to optimize performance while eliminating range anxiety.

Hybrid Technology

HYBRID MODE

The default mode, Hybrid, combines torque from both the 2.0L turbocharged engine and the electric motors. This combination provides maximum horsepower, instant torque and the best acceleration. Electric power is consumed first.

ELECTRIC MODE

When the battery has more than a 1% charge, it can run in Electric Mode. This allows for nearly zero tailpipe emissions up to highway speeds. The vehicle can run in this mode for up to 21 miles.

What powers the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe?

Jeep has begun its first electric vehicle endeavor with the Wrangler 4xe. The gas engine is a 2.0L turbocharged Inline-4 cylinder engine. The electric side of things is two motor generator units, one is mounted to the engine, and the other is mounted to the TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. The 4xe is equipped with a 400-volt, 17-kWh, 96-cell lithium-ion, nickel manganese cobalt battery pack. This setup provides the 4xe with an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. This torque is immediately available from the two electric motors. All 4xe models will come with three E-Selec Modes to allow drivers to get the most from the 4xe. The 4xe defaults to Hybrid mode, which uses both the gas engine and electric motors. Battery power is used first in hybrid mode; then, the gas engine kicks in to add propulsion. Electric mode allows for zero-emission driving using just the electric motors until the battery reaches the minimum charge, which would switch on the gas engine. The gas engine will also engage when the driver requests more torque. Lastly, the E-Save mode uses power solely from the gas engine to save the electric power for later.

Can You Talk About the Capability of the Wrangler 4xe?

It may be a hybrid, but the Wrangler 4xe is still a Wrangler. Although the 4xe launches Jeep into an Electric Vehicle future, the off-roading heritage still shines brightly. In fact, the 4xe just might be one of the most capable Wranglers yet. With 470 lb-ft of torque instantly available, off-roaders will find the 4xe easier to control while climbing and crawling without needing to build up engine RPM to get the wheels to move. If your travels lead you to a stream, it's still not a problem. The battery and all electrical connections are sealed and the air intake, as on all Wranglers, is placed high under the hood. This allows the 4xe up to 30 inches of water fording capability. All 4xe models come with a 4x4 drivetrain, a Selec-Trac two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio, and next-generation Dana 44 solid front and rear axles. The Wrangler Rubicon has been the subject of Jeep's off-road prowess for many years, and its capability is not lost on the 4xe. In addition to the instant torque, the 4xe Rubicon will have a Rock-Trac 4x4 system, a two-speed transfer case with a 4:1 low-range gear ratio, Tru-Lok electric front and rear locking differentials, and 33-inch all-terrain tires. Greater articulation and overall suspension travel is achieved with the Rubicon's electronic front sway bar disconnect.

What are the Standard Features of the Wrangler 4xe?

The Wrangler 4xe comes in three different trims; Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude. Every trim brings the open-air freedom and off-road capability the Wrangler is known for while each bringing something unique. All three 4xe trims come standard with 20-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, push-button start, an 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, and a 9-speaker Alpine premium audio system. The Uconnect software on the 8.4-inch touchscreen will have hybrid electric pages, allowing drivers to monitor the hybrid system usage.
